Matt and Jessica Mermod currently own and operate Newcastle Gardens in Newcastle, CA.

Matt has worked in the restaurant industry for over 30 years, opening catering companies and restaurants in Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego and Napa. Before landing in Newcastle, he spent over ten years in the Bay Area as Executive Chef and General Manager at a catering company that served many large-scale tech companies.

Youthful memories watching his Grandma Margie and Grandpa Tony cook pizzas in his childhood kitchen inspired him to go beyond restaurants and catering. Detroit-style and Sicilian-style pizza have very similar characteristics, so he married his Sicilian background with his wife’s Michigan background to create Motörhead Pizza, a true homage to both styles.

The irony forever will be that his very first job in the kitchen was at a pizza place in Tahoe where he got fired for taking home a burnt pie.
